Ron Smith (Board Chairman)

Ron Smith has over thirty years experience as a Chartered Accountant. He has an extensive background in finance and general management. He is a former Chief Financial Officer with Aliant Telecom Inc. and its predecessor, Maritime Telephone & Telegraph, and later served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Emera Inc., a Halifax-based energy company, He is currently chair of the Board of Governors of Acadia University, acting Chair of Gammon Gold (TSX-GAM, NYSE-GRS), a member of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and a member of the Canadian Accounting Standards Oversight Council. Mr. Smith is a former national president of the Canadian Association for Community Living, former chair of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council and is completing a term as Chair of Voluntary Planning, a Nova Scotia Citizens' Planning Forum.
